About Little Downham, Cambridgeshire Little Downham stands at the 'brink' of the Isle. The road West to Pymoor drops noticeably, and at Tower Far, both Wisbech [15 miles away] and Ely to the South can be seen on a clear day. St Leonard's Church dates back to the 12th and 13th Centuries. Little Downham is a large linear village set on slightly elevated ground amidst the wider fen. A Conservation Area has been designated in the central part of the village along Main Street, with the Church and Old Rectory forming prominent and attractive features at the eastern end. Little Downham has a good range of facilities. There is a variety of food and non-food shops, a primary school and play group, two public houses, a petrol station, a church, a village hall and volunteer drop-in cafe, and a travelling library. There is also a good range of outdoor sport facilities such as football, tennis and cricket clubs and an all weather sports pitch. There are numerous village greens. A bus service runs through the village 6 days a week. |
